Call for Nominations for IEEE Division V/VIII Delegate-Elect/Director Elect

The Division V Nominating Committee and its Chair, Tom Conte, are seeking nominees for the position of 2026 IEEE Division Delegate-Elect/Director-Elect. This is a three-year commitment, including a one-year term as Delegate-Elect/Director-Elect, and a two-year term as Delegate/Director.

WHO CAN NOMINATE?

Anyone can submit a nomination; nominators need not be IEEE members, but nominees must meet certain qualifications as noted under member qualifications below. Self-nominations are encouraged. An IEEE organizational unit may submit recommendations.

HOW TO NOMINATE?

To self-nominate for the position:

Complete the Online Nomination Form via OpenWater.

To nominate a colleague:

Refer them to the Online Nomination Form via OpenWater; or
To nominate anonymously, complete the Nominate a Colleague form, and IEEE staff will contact the nominee and provide the OpenWater link.

DEADLINE FOR NOMINATIONS: 15 August 2024

Division Delegates/Directors are elected to the IEEE Assembly and IEEE Board of Directors by members of their constituencies. They serve as Delegates to the IEEE Assembly and members of the IEEE Board of Directors. They first serve as Delegates-Elect/Directors-Elect before becoming Delegates/Directors and members of the IEEE Assembly and the IEEE Board of Directors. They also serve as members of the IEEE Technical Activities Board, acting as a coordinator for the technical interests of the participants in the Society(ies)/Technical Council(s) within the Division.

ELIGIBILITY:

Must be a member in good standing, of IEEE Senior Member grade or higher, and must be a member of the IEEE Computer Society.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Demonstrated business acumen, experience and ability to exercise sound judgments in matters that relate to the current and long-term objectives of IEEE and a willingness and ability to contribute positively to the decision-making process of IEEE
Working knowledge of the IEEE and its fields of interests, values and reputation, activities, mission, governance and organizational structure, legal landscape, finances, goals, needs, and strategic direction
Working knowledge of the fiduciary responsibilities of a Director
Ability to listen, analyze, think clearly and creatively, work well with people individually and in a group
Ability to cultivate and recruit Board members and other volunteers
Ability to read and understand basic financial statements
Interest and ability to understand the sometimes conflicting interests of the various constituencies of IEEE, which include members, employees, customers, governmental units, creditors, and the general public and to act in the interests of IEEE as a whole, all members and the public
Honesty, integrity and adherence to high ethical standards
Sensitivity to and tolerance of differing views; a friendly, responsive, and patient approach; and community-building skills
Excellent relationship skills and the ability to interact with the public, other organizations and diverse communities on a global scale
Excellent leadership skills including the ability to motivate others; negotiate compromise and resolve differences; maintain positive working relationships and capability to set direction
Ability to adhere to strong governance practices
Capability to focus on strategic issues and make effectiveness a top objective
Passion for, and interest in, the IEEE organization
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations
Excellent communication skills
Ability to meet deadlines and respond to communications in a timely fashion
Familiarity with the basics of Robert’s Rules of Order
Prior relevant volunteer experience
Normally should have had experience as a S/C President or S/C senior leadership position (e.g., Vice President/Chair of a S/C Board)Should have the support of that person’s employer in meeting the obligations of the position.
